Privacy Policy
Last updated: 9 October 2026
PillWise is a medication reminder app made by Tugadot Pty Ltd (ABN 12 688 604 364) ("we", "us"). This policy explains what information the app handles, where it goes and the choices you have. We handle personal information in line with the Australian Privacy Principles in the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth).
The short version
- You don’t need an account. Your medicines, doses, symptoms, health readings and appointments are stored on your phone.
- Information only leaves your phone when you use an AI feature, search for nearby pharmacies or choose to share with a caregiver.
- We don’t sell your information or show ads, and the app doesn’t use third-party analytics or tracking.
Information stored on your phone
Everything you enter is saved in the app’s storage on your device, including: your profile (name, date of birth, gender), medicines and schedules, doses taken or skipped, stock and refill dates, symptoms and notes, health readings (such as blood pressure, glucose and weight), appointments, and family profiles you create.
We can’t see this information. It may be included in your device backups (such as iCloud), which are handled by Apple under its own terms. Deleting the app deletes this information from your phone.
AI features
Some features use artificial intelligence provided by OpenAI. When you use them, only what’s needed for that request is sent, through our server, to OpenAI:
- Scanning a label or identifying a medicine: the photo you take or choose.
- Voice input: your voice recording, to turn it into text.
- Voice read-outs: the text being read aloud.
- Drug interaction checks: the names of your medicines.
- Symptom insights: the symptoms and medicines you’ve recorded.
We don’t store these requests on our server. OpenAI processes them to return a result. Under its API terms it doesn’t use them to train its models, and it may keep them for up to 30 days to detect abuse. You can use PillWise without these features.
Caregiver sharing (optional)
If you invite a caregiver, PillWise sends to our server, and shares with the caregivers you’ve linked: your name, your medicine names and dosages, your scheduled dose times (for about the last day and the next few days), and whether each dose was taken or skipped. Medicines in family profiles are never shared.
Our server uses this to alert your caregivers when a dose isn’t marked as taken within the time you choose. A caregiver’s phone provides their name and a push notification token, so alerts can be delivered.
- Sharing only happens while you have a caregiver linked, or an invite waiting to be used.
- Dose history is kept for up to 35 days, then deleted.
- If you remove your last caregiver, or your invite expires unused, your shared dose information is deleted.
- Settings → Caregivers → “Delete all my caregiver data” deletes everything we hold about your phone, straight away.
Only invite people you trust. Caregivers can see your medicines and when you take them.
Permissions
- Notifications and alarms: to remind you to take your medicines. Reminders are scheduled on your phone.
- Camera and photos: to scan medicine labels. Photos are only sent when you use an AI feature (see above).
- Microphone: for voice input. Recordings are only sent when you use voice input.
- Location: to find pharmacies near you. On iPhone the search uses Apple Maps, handled by Apple under its privacy policy. Where that isn’t available, your phone sends an approximate location (rounded to about 1 km) directly to OpenStreetMap’s public search services, and keeps the results for a week. Your location isn’t sent to us.
You can change these at any time in your phone’s Settings.
Things you choose to share
When you export a report or share a file or code using your phone’s share sheet, it goes wherever you send it (for example, an email to your doctor). That recipient’s handling is outside our control.
Service providers and overseas disclosure
We use these providers to run PillWise:
- Supabase: hosts our server, the AI relay and caregiver data.
- OpenAI: processes AI requests.
- Expo: delivers app updates and caregiver push notifications. When the app checks for updates, Expo receives technical information such as your IP address, platform and app version.
- Apple: delivers notifications and provides the App Store, in-app purchases and Apple Maps.
- RevenueCat: manages PillWise Premium subscriptions. It receives a random app user ID and your purchase and subscription status from the App Store, never your health information.
- OpenStreetMap (Overpass API and Nominatim, run by OpenStreetMap volunteers and the FOSSGIS association): pharmacy search. They receive the approximate location of a search and your IP address.
These providers may store or process information outside Australia, including in the United States. We use providers that protect information with industry-standard security.
Security
Information sent from the app is encrypted in transit (HTTPS). Caregiver data can only be reached through our server using a random secret held by your phone, and it’s never available to other users except the caregivers you link. No system is completely secure, so please keep your phone protected with a passcode.
Children
PillWise isn’t intended for children to use on their own. A parent or guardian may create a family profile to manage a child’s medicines, and is responsible for the information they enter.
Your choices and rights
You can view, change or delete the information on your phone in the app at any time. To ask about, access or correct information we hold on our server, contact us. If you have a complaint, contact us first. If you’re not satisfied, you can contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (oaic.gov.au).
Our website
This policy also covers pillwise.com.au. The website is hosted by Vercel, which keeps standard server logs (such as IP address and browser type).
We use Google Analytics to understand how visitors use the website. It sets cookies and collects information such as pages visited, approximate location and device type. You can block these cookies in your browser or use Google’s opt-out add-on. Google Analytics isn’t used in the app.
If you contact us through the website’s form, we receive your name, email address and message by email (sent through SendGrid), and use them only to reply to you.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as PillWise changes. We’ll update the date above, and tell you in the app about significant changes.
